Recipe saving

Your recipes, saved on your site - not in someone else's app

Readers tap a bookmark and your recipe joins their personal collection - right inside your site's Allspice widget. Saving is the retention engine of the whole system: saved recipes are the reason readers come back, and the raw material for their grocery lists and meal plans.

What readers experience

Anywhere a recipe appears - the recipe page, search results, the widget - readers can tap the bookmark icon to save it. Saved recipes live in the widget's saved area, where readers can:

  • browse and reopen everything they've saved on your site
  • search within their saved recipes
  • un-save anything they bookmarked by mistake
  • jump from a saved recipe straight into Cook Mode, a grocery list, or a meal plan slot

Saving is free and instant - no signup wall in the way of the first save.

Saving without an account

Readers can start saving before ever creating an account; those saves are stored in the current browser. The widget is upfront about the tradeoff: browser-only saves can be lost when switching devices, using private browsing, or clearing browser data - which becomes a natural, non-pushy reason to create a free account.

Accounts & syncing

With a free Allspice account, saved recipes sync across browsers and devices - the recipe saved on a phone in the grocery store is on the laptop in the kitchen. Accounts also carry grocery lists and pantry data, and support email or provider sign-in.

One account works across all Allspice-enabled sites, and Premium members can save and organize unlimited recipes across the network.

Saved recipes in the wider experience

Saving isn't a dead-end list:

  • Search surfaces the saved collection and makes it searchable.
  • Meal planning pulls from saved recipes when readers fill their week.
  • Grocery lists are one tap away from any saved recipe.
  • Cook Mode launches directly from a save.

The result: a saved recipe is a scheduled return visit, not just a bookmark.

Personal versions

Signed-in readers can edit and save their own versions of recipes - their tweaks, their servings, their notes - while your original stays untouched on your site. Readers get ownership of their adaptations; you keep canonical control of your content.

Why it matters for your site

  • Saves replace screenshots and Pinterest boards. The reader who used to save your recipe somewhere else - and maybe never find their way back - now saves it in a collection that lives on your site.
  • Every save is a return-visit intent signal. Saved recipes bring readers back to cook, and back through your pages when they do.
  • Account creation happens on your domain. When a reader creates their Allspice account through your widget, future Allspice Premium subscriptions from that reader are attributed to your site for revenue share (see Revenue sharing).
  • It feeds your list. With email integrations enabled, readers can opt into your newsletter during Allspice signup - saving flows are one of the most natural opt-in moments (see Email integrations).

What you can configure

  • Entry points. Bookmark controls appear across premade entry points - the Cooking CTA includes a bookmark control, the Action Bar includes a bookmark icon - and the widget itself; enable and place per domain, with colors matched to your brand.
  • Email capture. Connect Mailchimp, MailerLite, Kit, and other supported providers so Allspice sign-ups can opt into your newsletter automatically.
  • Recipe quality. Clean structured recipe data (see Recipe guidelines / Recipe parsing) makes saved recipes render beautifully in the collection and behave correctly in lists and plans.
TIP:

Encourage the first save. Sites that surface a save control near the top of the recipe (Cooking CTA) convert casual visitors into collection-builders - and collection-builders into returning readers.

FAQ

Where do saved recipes live?

In the reader's Allspice account (or their browser, if they haven't signed in) - accessed through the widget on your site.

Do saves cost the reader anything?

No. Saving recipes is part of the free experience; Premium adds unlimited saving and organization across all partner sites.

What if a reader's saves go missing?

Usually they're signed into a different account, or the saves were browser-only. The widget's help and troubleshooting content walks readers through it.

Can readers save recipes from other sites into my widget?

The widget's saved collection on your site is built around your recipes; a reader's Allspice account can hold saves from across participating sites.
