What readers experience

Readers save a recipe by tapping its heart icon. The icon appears on recipe cards in search results and chat answers, and on the recipe view inside the widget. Readers who finish guided cooking are also offered a save.

Saved recipes appear in the widget's Search tab as a My Saved Recipes From [your site] row, where readers can reopen them or tap the heart again to un-save. From a saved recipe they can start cooking, add ingredients to a grocery list, or add it to a meal plan.

Saving is free, and the first save doesn't require an account.

Saving without an account

Readers can save before creating an account. Those saves belong to an anonymous session in their current browser, so they won't follow the reader to another device or browser, and clearing browser data or using private browsing can lose them.

After a reader's first save, the widget suggests creating a free account to keep saved recipes synced.

Accounts & syncing

With a free Allspice account, saved recipes sync across browsers and devices. Accounts also carry grocery lists and pantry data, and support email or provider sign-in.

One account works across all Allspice-enabled sites, and Premium members can save and organize unlimited recipes across the network.

Saved recipes in the wider experience

• Search shows the reader's saved recipes from your site as their own row. For signed-in readers, AI search also takes saved recipes into account.
• Meal planning lists saved recipes first when readers add recipes to a plan.
• Chat can search a reader's saved recipes when they ask (for example, “what can I make from my saved recipes?”), if Show saved recipes allows it.
• Grocery lists and guided cooking are one tap away from any saved recipe.

Personal versions

Signed-in readers can edit and save their own versions of recipes, with their own tweaks, servings, and notes, while your original stays unchanged on your site.

Migrating saves from Slickstream

If your readers already save recipes with Slickstream, you can bring those saves with you.

1. In Slickstream, export your members' favorites spreadsheet (it has SiteCode, Email, and PageUrl columns).
2. In the Publisher Portal, go to Integrate → your domain → Connections tab → Migrated favorites, and click Upload Slickstream export (CSV or TSV, up to 25 MB).
3. The import runs in the background and takes a few minutes for a large site. When it's done, the card shows how many members and favorites were imported.

When a reader creates an Allspice account with the same email address they used with Slickstream, their saved recipes are already there. Readers don't have to do anything else. Uploading a new export replaces the previous import for that site.

Your readers' saves live in Allspice, independent of your ad network. Migration from Mediavine Grow is coming soon.

Why it matters for your site

Readers who would have screenshotted your recipe or pinned it elsewhere save it in a collection that lives on your site, so they come back to your pages to cook it. Accounts are created inside the widget on your site, and with email integrations connected, readers can opt into your newsletter when they sign up.

What you can configure

• Show saved recipes. In the Publisher Portal (Integrate → click the domain → General tab), choose Never, Chat only, Saved library only, or Chat & saved library. With Chat only (the default) or Chat & saved library, the assistant can search a reader's saved recipes when they ask for them. With the other two options, it searches your full archive instead.
• Save links. A link to #allspice-save on a recipe page saves that recipe. See Link hashes.
• Email capture. Connect Mailchimp, MailerLite, Kit, or another supported provider so readers who create an Allspice account can opt into your newsletter. See Email integrations and Product email delivery.
• Recipe quality. Clean structured recipe data (see Recipe guidelines and Recipe parsing) makes saved recipes display correctly and work in grocery lists and meal plans.

FAQ

Where do saved recipes live?

In the reader's Allspice account, or in an anonymous session in their browser if they haven't signed in. Readers get to them through the widget on your site.

Do saves cost the reader anything?

No. Saving recipes is part of the free experience; Premium adds unlimited saving and organization across all partner sites.

What if a reader's saves go missing?

Usually they're signed into a different account, or they saved without an account on another browser or device.

Can readers save recipes from other sites into my widget?

No. The saved row in your widget shows recipes from your site. A reader's Allspice account can also hold saves from other participating sites, which appear on those sites.
