What readers experience

A reader lands on your recipe, decides to make it, and taps a grocery entry point (the “Build Grocery List” rail state, the Action Bar, an ingredient strip, or the widget's Grocery tab). From there they can:

• add ingredients from the recipe - everything, or only what they're missing
• add their own items by hand (“paper towels”, “coffee”)
• keep multiple named lists and switch between them
• check items off while shopping
• print a clean, store-ready list, share it, or order through a delivery partner

Grocery lists are part of the free reader experience. Signed-in readers keep their lists across devices; readers without an account can still build lists stored in their browser.

Adding from a recipe

Readers open a recipe, review the ingredient list, select what they need, and add it to a list. Servings scaling applies, so a reader doubling your recipe gets doubled quantities. Because Allspice normalizes ingredient data (see Recipe parsing), items combine sensibly across recipes - two recipes calling for onions don't produce two disconnected onion entries.

Managing lists

Lists behave like a real shopping tool: multiple lists, item check-off, quantity awareness, and easy cleanup after a shopping trip. Readers planning a week of your recipes can build one consolidated list rather than juggling screenshots and notes.

Pantry awareness

When a reader uses the Pantry, Allspice marks ingredients they already have directly in recipe ingredient lists - so they add only what's missing. Staples (salt, flour, oil) can be flagged once and treated as always on hand. This is a small detail readers love: your recipes stop generating redundant shopping.

Shopping & delivery partners

Readers can send their list to a supported delivery partner. Currently supported export destinations include Instacart, Amazon Fresh, and Whole Foods, with the reader's preferred partner saved as their default (and changeable at any time).

Print & share

The print flow produces a clean, paginated, two-column list designed to be legible on paper - not a screenshot of an app. Readers can also share lists depending on site and account settings.

Help from Pico

Where Pico (the AI assistant) is available, readers can manage lists conversationally: “add everything from this recipe,” “remove the dairy,” “adjust this for six people.” Pico's grocery help follows the same domain-level topic controls you set in the portal.

• The shopping moment stays with you. Instead of leaving to a notes app or a retailer's site, readers plan their shop inside your experience - and associate that utility with your brand.
• Multi-recipe sessions. Building a list naturally pulls readers into more of your recipes (“what else should I make this week?”).
• A monetizable surface. Grocery lists and ingredient flows are where affiliate and shopping links live.
• Return visits. A saved list is a reason to come back - to check items off in the store, and to open the recipes behind it when it's time to cook.

What you can configure

• Planned pass-through. For supported grocery integrations, Allspice intends to pass through 100% of attributable grocery affiliate revenue to the publisher/site, subject to applicable partner terms.
• Entry points. Enable and place grocery entry points per domain - the Rail's “Build Grocery List” state, the Action Bar's “Build grocery list” button, the Overview block's ingredient strip with grocery selection, or your own custom triggers - and match colors to your theme.

Do readers need an account?

No - lists work without one, stored in the browser. An account keeps lists synced across devices and available later.

Does Allspice guarantee performance of affiliate revenue?

No. Performance depends on your marketing, programs, audience, and content.

Can readers order from any store?

Delivery/export support currently covers Instacart, Amazon Fresh, and Whole Foods, with more ordering and pickup options planned.

Do grocery lists work with meal plans?

Yes - readers can generate a consolidated shopping list from an entire meal plan in one step (see Meal planning).
