Verify ownership & link your site

Overview

Before Allspice can discover, sync, or promote recipes from your site, you must verify ownership of each domain you connect.

Allspice uses DNS TXT record verification to confirm that you control a domain. Publishers may connect multiple domains, and each domain is verified independently. Once a domain is verified:

• Recipe discovery begins automatically
• Recipes become eligible for promotion across Allspice
• Engagement and analytics tracking is enabled

Prerequisites

1. Your organization has signed the Allspice Publisher Agreement, and your publisher account is active.
2. You have access to your domain registrar (e.g. GoDaddy, Namecheap, Squarespace) to add DNS records for domain verification.
3. Your site uses SSL (https://) to ensure secure user interactions with the widget.

Adding Your Domain

Adding a domain tells Allspice where your recipes live. No crawling or syncing occurs until the domain is verified.

1. Sign into the Allspice Publisher Portal
2. Navigate to the Integrate tab
3. Click Add Domain and fill in necessary information, then press Submit Details.

Verifying Your Domain

The Allspice widget only runs on verified domains to protect your brand and user security. This prevents unauthorized sites from using your Allspice integration, and ensures user data is attributed correctly to your site. For each domain, you will be shown a record similar to:

1. Add the TXT Record to Your DNS
   Navigate to the list of your domains in the Integrate tab and click on TXT Record. Then, log in to your DNS provider and create the new record.
   
   
   TIP:

   If your DNS provider requires a hostname, use @ or leave the field blank to apply to the root domain.

2. Wait for DNS Propagation
   Most domains verify within 1-15 minutes. In some cases, propagation may take up to 24 hours. You do not need to stay on this page while waiting.
3. Verify the Domain
   Return to the Publisher Portal and click Verify Domain. Once verification succeeds, you'll see the domain status update to Verified, and recipe syncing will begin automatically.

Managing Multiple Domains

You can connect and manage multiple domains under a single Allspice account. Each domain has its own verification token, is verified independently, and syncs and updates independently. Removing or pausing one domain will not affect the others.

Each domain may appear in one of the following states:

• Unverified - TXT record not yet detected
• Active - Domain verified and syncing enabled
• Paused - Syncing temporarily disabled
• Removed - Domain no longer connected
